“In the realm of an extraordinary, subtle grace, one finds Craig Carry’s unmistakable artistic touch.”

—Christopher Porpora (Cheval Sombre)

I am an illustrator, designer and printmaker based in Cork, Ireland.  Since graduating from the Munster Technological University in 2007 with a BA(Hons) in Visual Communication, I have predominantly worked on book covers, album covers and screen printed gig posters for a variety of clients, as well as my own personal art and printmaking.

I work across a range of media, including: screen print, linocut, collage and cut-out, painting, drawing and digital illustration.

Since 2017, I have been a full-time member of Cork Printmakers, a community-based print studio situated in the heart of Cork City.

I love to design and illustrate book covers. My work for Cork-based publisher Mercier Press – Ireland’s oldest independent publishing house – includes artwork for numerous titles spanning memoir, Irish history and essay anthology, including “Ionbhá: The Empathy Book for Ireland”, edited by Cillian Murphy.

My personal work spans printmaking and artwork utilising various media.  In 2023, I was commissioned to create new print-based work to coincide with the twenty-fifth anniversary of Crash Ensemble, Ireland’s leading new music ensemble.  I have had solo exhibitions of my print-based work at various venues and festivals, including: Kilkenny International Arts Festival, National Concert Hall, Dublin and Sounds From A Safe Harbour, Cork.  In 2018, as part of the “In Clouds” multi-disciplinary production for Cork Midsummer Festival, I created a series of screen prints in response to an essay by the award winning author Sara Baume.  In 2016, I was commissioned to create a series of posters for André de Ridder’s contemporary classical collective stargaze for their music programme at Berlin’s Volksbühne theatre.

My commercial work includes designing and creating artwork for album covers. Clients include independent record labels such as: Domino, Ergodos, Memphis Industries, Sonic Cathedral and Dinked Editions; as well as musicians including: Bell X1, Cheval Sombre, HousePlants and Seán Mac Erlaine.

Over the past ten years, my screen printed gig posters have been made for many musicians and bands including: Amiina, Courtney Barnett, Feist, Gilla Band, Glen Hansard, The Magnetic Fields, This Is The Kit, Villagers, Wilco, Willy Mason and many more.  Each poster is a limited edition, hand-printed screen print made at Cork Printmakers. My music poster work has been exhibited at group shows including: Le Micro Festival, Liège, Belgium; Primavera Sound, Barcelona and GRID Grafisch Museum, Groningen.

I am a member of Visual Artists Ireland.

“Craig Carry is a tremendously gifted artist. I have worked with him on many projects over the years but most recently he designed the cover for our book on empathy, “Ionbhá - The Empathy book for Ireland” and also on our festival “Sounds from a Safe Harbour”. He is also a wonderful and sensitive collaborator and has gained the respect and trust of all those he has worked with. I recommend him and his work with great confidence.”

—Cillian Murphy, Actor

“Having worked with Craig on visually representing several music projects over the past few years, I am often in awe of the depth of thought that he brings to the process.

One of the joys of engaging with other artists in introducing new music or performances to the world is feeling that they have added dimension to the music and/or that a poster, say, really chimes with what the concert will hopefully feel like.

With Craig, it feels like this always happens!”

—Paul Noonan, Bell X1/HousePlants

“I worked in collaboration with Craig Carry in 2018 as part of an eclectic multi-media production for Cork Midsummer Festival called In Clouds. Craig created a series of prints in response to a text I had written – a fragmented, experimental essay – and I was deeply impressed by his astute engagement with the nuances and complexities of the text, and with the stunning artworks he made as a result, and I continue to highly regard his singular work and devotion to his practice.”

—Sara Baume, Author

“I have had the privilege of Craig designing concert posters for many of my musical projects (e.g. The Gloaming, This is How we Fly & my duo with Dan Trueman), and through that have gained a little window into Craig’s versatility as an artist and his deep knowledge of, and passion for, the unique potential of each method he uses to produce his work.

He’s an artist whose work has evolved and continues to evolve, and I think it will be fascinating to see what directions Craig takes in the years and decades ahead.”

—Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Musician

“In the realm of an extraordinary, subtle grace, one finds Craig Carry’s unmistakable artistic touch.”

—Christopher Porpora, Cheval Sombre

“Craig’s work has graced countless albums for good reason. He immediately understood the music for my second album and created a stunning collage piece as well as taking care of all the artwork requirements for the vinyl with some beautiful and creative solutions.”

—Seán Mac Erlaine, Musician

“Craig is an illustrator and designer of tremendous talent. His visual response to the music in question and the ensemble itself beautifully captured the spirit of both. An innovative artist with a finely honed sensibility, Craig is a true professional and is a pleasure to collaborate and work with.”

—Siân Cunningham, CEO Crash Ensemble
